Thursday evening I am doing my first official coverage of an art opening for Alan (see his site at http://www.artbusiness.com/openings.html ). If it goes well, I hope to continue doing some coverage of SF Art Scene for his blog as long as he is supportive of this venture.

Here it is – it’s a long page so scroll about halfway down until you see sfmoma artists gallery:

My small Olympus camera is ready to go with the batteries charged. The work is at the SF MOMA artists gallery – a gallery here in San Francisco that supports local artists.

Here is the Information from their website:

6 artists’ works all at one opening! The website above has images of some of the work if you scroll down a bit.

The works shown will have a mixture of mediums and messages. The lower gallery is emphasizing formal concerns with delightful variety and the loft area will contain works engaging with (more?) human context.

More will be “ventured” after I have viewed the works in person – perhaps on Friday or Saturday.

Lori Del Mar, Susan Martin, Canan Tolon
June 4 – July 10, 2009
Main gallery

Opening reception:
Thursday, June 4, 2009
5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m

“These three artists share an interest in formalism, abstract patterns, and repetition. Martin’s sculptures are made of found objects, which she manipulates by tying, joining, binding, grouping, stacking, bundling, folding, bending, twisting, wrapping, or laminating. Del Mar’s work employs layers of oil on sheets of aluminum, drawing the eye deeper into the painting from the surface, and from the beveled edges toward the center. Canan Tolon creates abstract canvases with complex repeating patterns reminiscent of a television screen with spotty reception.” (http://www.sfmoma.org/pages/artists_gallery_exhibitions, June 2009)

New World Order: Humanity
Ian MacLean, Kelly Ording, Flo Oy Wong, Robert Welsh
June 4 – July 10, 2009
Loft gallery

Opening reception:
Thursday, June 4, 2009
5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m

“New World Order is a series of five exhibitions held in the Loft Gallery. In each presentation, the artists explore the rapidly changing world through artworks with social, political, and ecological contexts.” (http://www.sfmoma.org/pages/artists_gallery_exhibitions, June 2009)

“For this segment, Humanity, we feature four artists who deal with the common human experience. Some of the artworks address this theme in a personal context, such as Flo Oy Wong’s depictions of family relationships, whereas others address it in more social framework, such as Robert Welsh’s pieces, which capture evidence of human habitation in an urban landscape.” (http://www.sfmoma.org/pages/artists_gallery_exhibitions, June 2009)

Please introduce yourself if you see me there and LOVE ART!
